On Saturday afternoon, March 20, three people were injured and a child was killed in an in Cottonport.
According to Cottonport police the accident happened at around 2 p.m. on Front Street in Cottonport. A vehicle being driven by Jermaine Patterson Sr. ran off the left side of the road and then back onto the highway where it hit another vehicle being driven by Michael Thevenot. Thevenot’s car ran into the bayou and witnesses said that a National Guard convoy which was driving passed, stopped and pulled him out of the vehicle.
Patterson, and his wife, Sasha Hayes were airlifted to Alexandria and Thevenot was airlifted to Lafayette. Eight month old Jermaine Patterson Jr. was taken by ambulance to Bunkie General where he was pronounced dead. In addition a young girl of three or four years who was in the Patterson car was uninjured.
The accident is still under investigation.
