On Friday, May 27 a single vehicle crash caused the death of a woman.
According to Louisiana State Police, the accident happened on LA 56 just south of LA 58 in Terrebone Parish at around 4 p.m.
A 2000 Mazda 626 being driven by 86 year old Velma Dehart, of Chauvin was traveling south on LA 56. For reasons unknown she went off the right side of the road near the Dollar General store and into a ditch. Dehart and her front-seat passenger, 60 year old Sandra Scott, also of Chauvin, sustained minor injuries.
Hazel Scott, aged 90 was the backseat passenger and she was killed in the accident.
The police say that all three occupants were wearing seat belts and although impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash, routine toxicology tests are pending for Dehart.
