Driving at night

Many people hate driving at night and wisely so as it can be very dangerous.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration even though only 25% of all driving actually happens at night, more than 50% of all accident fatalities happen at night.

There are many problems associated with night driving, not least of which is that drivers tend to be more tired. In addition the ability to measure depth and distinguish color is worse at night as well as peripheral vision.

There is another major problem in that the average low beam only lights up the road from 160 to 250 ahead of the vehicle and high beams somewhat more, up to 500 feet. But if you are driving at 60 mph it would take more than 200 feet for the vehicle to stop. This means that if something is stopped ahead of you, the chances are that you will not be able to avoid hitting it.

Hence it is very important to drive more slowly and concentrate even more when driving at night.
